The Student Assembly (SA) is a 23-member elected board known representing undergraduate students on campus. While the assembly has many functions and attempts to serve as a representative governance organization, it's primary function is the distribution of the Student Activity Fee charged to each student's bursar at the start of each semester. The assembly sets the rate of the fee and allocates the amounts to be spent by each organization it funds every other year. The decisions of the funding years go into effect the fall of the following year.

The Student Assembly takes an active role in student affairs by passing resolutions which are presented to the President of the university and the trustees. These resolutions can be well thought-out considerations about methods for improving student well-being or expressions of the student body's opinion on an issue.

[edit] Elections

The assembly holds elections every spring for terms of one year the following spring. Information about elections is usually available in the Cornell Daily Sun and can also be found at the Office of Assemblies Website.

[edit] Committees

The assembly has several committees which allocate money or investigate specific campus issues. The Student Assembly Finance Commission also known as the SAFC is one such organization. A large part of the Student Activity Fee is allocated to the commission, which then allocates smaller amounts to student groups. Each semester, hundreds of Cornell student groups apply for funding from the SAFC which has an independent executive board and membership from the Student Assembly. Other Student Assembly Committees include committees about dining, residential life, information technology, and financial aid.
