Selling Your Books
At the end of each semester students who have successfully completed their classes might want to make money by selling textbooks they don't need anymore. Students may choose to sell their books back to the Cornell store, but there are other alternatives like Kraftees.
Cornell Store
The Cornell store allows students to sell their books in different locations apart from the Cornell store. Students are able to sell books back at RPCC, Stella's, Noyes Center, and outside finals. Students are notified via email if they will be able to sell their books outside of a class final. The Cornell store will not accept books that have newer editions coming out. The Cornell Store usually offers to buy back your textbook for 50% of its list price.
After selling their books, students might also receive a soon-to-expire coupon off their next purchase at the Cornell Store and/or a free candy bar .
Kraftees
Kraftees is a store in Collegetown that carries textbooks and Cornell related merchandise. Most, if not all, of their stocked books are used. They buy books back from students, sometimes offering a marginal amount more than the Cornell store. They might also offer to buy your book even if there is a newer edition coming out, albeit at a rate greatly reduced from the current list price. Kraftees also runs an online service through which the student can request buyback quotes by e-mail.
Caution must be exercised, however, in claiming that Kraftees provides the best alternative to the Cornell Store, as students requesting buyback quotes have received far lower rates than the 50% standard offered by the Cornell Store. Rumor: a student requested a buyback quote for an unopened textbook in its original packaging whose list price is $150. Kraftees quoted it at $39.
Tent Outside CTB
A tent is setup outside of Collegetown Bagels every end of the semester where students can go and offer to sell their books.
Fraternities and Sororities
Occasionally, certain sororities and fraternities participate in the book buyback process, donating a significant portion of the earnings to charities and philanthropic organizations.
