The Lost Dog Café is a restaurant located on South Cayuga Street near the Ithaca Commons area. The café serves lunch and dinner, with brunch service on Saturdays and Sundays. Food is primarily American-style, with burgers, salads, fish steaks, fries, and vegan options available. The Lost Dog emphasizes the use of "fresh ingredients and vegetable stock (no MSG or chemicals)". The atmosphere and decoration is colorful, with unusual art pieces and colored lights. The waiting area of the restaurant is a coffee and lounge area.

History

The café was started in October 1994 in Binghamton, NY by a group of NYC East Village "café junkies". Marie McKenna, Elizabeth Hughes, Carla Bruce, and Ravi Prakash were involved in the opening of this branch, which moved once it became popular to a new development area on Binghamton's Water St. The Ithaca location, a former Morris's menswear store, was purchased towards the end of 1999 and opened in September of 2001. Elizabeth Hughes manages the Ithaca restaurant.

Name Inspiration

The Lost Dog takes its name from Clarese, a chihuahua owned by Hughes. Clarese is described in a humorous manner as a dog with "expensive and dangerous habits" and tastes which are difficult to please. She went missing during the opening of the Binghamton restaurant, but was found.
