EARS (Empathy, Assistance, and Referral Services) is a free program offered by the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS) to support university students in dealing with a variety of personal issues. Services include training, counseling, and outreach.

[edit] Training

Training to become an EARS counselor is a comprehensive three-semester long process divided into Beginner, Advanced, and Intensive. In Beginner, the trainee attends 2 ½ hour long large group and small group discussions to develop skills in empathy, active counseling, problem solving, and communication. Advanced and Intensive semesters are used to develop skills learned in Beginner through practice and simulation counseling sessions.

[edit] Counseling

EARS offers two types of counseling, walk-in and phone. All counseling services are confidential, nonjudgmental and short-term, meaning counselors are available at random and cannot be requested. Counseling can be reached via phone (255-EARS) and walk-in (211 Willard Straight Hall)

[edit] Outreach

In addition to year-round training and counseling services, EARS also participates in workshops to provide training for any organization at Cornell Workshops include topics on communication sills, leadership, s tress management, helping skills relationships ,sexuality, and self-esteem. A group workshop can be organized by calling (255-3608).
