The following information is being dredged from memories of attending Cornell in the early 70's. It might be in need of correction: The Class of 1917 Hall was one of 6 dormitories, constructed of cinderblocks and bricks, built after WWII to accomodate returnig GIs. They were collectively called the University Halls ("U-Halls")and accomodated mostly freshmen, but also some sophmores and transfer students. The Class of 1917 Hall was a men's dorm in the 1970s. Most of the U-Halls went coed in the early '70s, first by floor and later by alternating rooms.Rumor had it that the buildings were only intended to be temporary.
